A Brief History of Wm. Coulthard & Co. Ltd.
William Coulthard & Company Limited was founded in 1888 by
William Coulthard by the great great great -Grandfather of
the current managing Director and owner. It was incorporated
in 1920.
The original business was one of Mill and Mine furnishers.
It was their proud boast that they could supply anything required
by this type of enterprise.
C.K. Coulthard started a Plumbers and Builders Merchants
division of the business in 1916.
In the 1920`s the company concluded an agreement with the
Madison-Kipp Corporation in the U.S.A. to import and market
lubrication equipment and pressure diecasting machines.
This activity enjoyed increasing success and was expanded
in 1938 when the company concluded an agreement that allowed
it to begin the manufacture of diecasting machines. These
machines were sold throughout the world.
The company signed a licensing agreement with Manzel Brothers
of the U.S.A. in 1946 that led to lubrication equipment being
manufactured and marketed.
The company was by now manufacturing castings of their own
design as well as securing contracts to do so for other companies
around the world.
Increased demand for their products led to the company to
commission a purpose-built factory in 1947 for the purpose
of manufacturing lubrication equipment and diecasting machines.
The company increasingly concentrated on the core activities
of the manufacture of lubrication equipment and diecast components
over the next four decades. In this period a significant capacity
to manufacture components for lubrication systems was built
up in the new factory.
The company ceased manufacture of diecasting machines in
1985, and disposed of the Builders and Merchants division
in 1987.
A sales and marketing and technical centre was established
in the North East of England to better service the need of
our lubrication systems customers.
Today the company markets, designs, and manufactures lubrication
systems and diecastings worldwide. Some of these are marketed
under the trade name of Baric Systems, the title to which
the company acquired some time ago.
We have a team of highly skilled and experienced individuals
who collectively have many years experience in these disciplines.
We are able to offer any potential customer a world-class
service covering all aspects of the supply of products to
internationally recognised standards, whilst at the same time
being able to offer the personalised service that private
companies are best placed to provide.
